Workshops: Innovation Roadmap for the decarbonisation of offshore wind maritime logistics in the North Sea region

Website visit Address Virtual Workshops Start February 23, 2021 - 1:30 pm End February 25, 2021 -4:30 pm

On behalf of the UK Government Department for Transport (DFT), the ORE Catapult, in partnership with the Workboat Association (WA), is developing an Innovation Roadmap for the decarbonisation of offshore wind maritime logistics in the North Sea region and would like to invite you to contribute.

The DFT commissioned ORE Catapult and the WA to prepare a roadmap, detailing how to decarbonise offshore wind vessels, with a particular focus on the North Sea. The ‘Roadmap’ aims to provide an evidence-based report that can serve to inform policy-makers, as well as industry and investors, identifying barriers to deployment, helping to de-risk clean maritime investments in offshore wind. Our work to date has involved significant industry engagement and has helped identify draft findings in terms of the key technical, regulatory and market barriers and options for addressing these barriers.

We would like to invite you to take part in a series of focus groups aimed at exploring our initial findings and providing feedback. Your industry expertise and insight is highly valued and will be used to critique the draft roadmap and inform the final findings of the report to Government.

Each event will include a presentation of findings regarding the current Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) of relevant, identified technologies, along with details of findings in relation to the key barriers and enablers to adoption, including technology, regulatory and market issues.

The events will take place during w/c 22 February and you can register to participate in as many of the focus groups as you feel are relevant to your organisation. Details for each of the events can be found below.

  • Event 1 – Vessel propulsion systems (new build) and Vessel retrofit (including adaptations to hull and propulsion systems)

  • Event 3 – Electrification, charging systems and batteries

  • Event 4 – Offshore logistics, operational performance and enabling infrastructure

Please register your place for each event individually and we will circulate detailed agendas nearer the time.
