Dr. Alberto Pirrera

Dr. Alberto Pirrera

Senior Academic, Wind Blade Research Hub

Alberto Pirrera is the Senior Academic Lead of the Wind Blade Research Hub. A Senior Lecturer in Composite Structures, Alberto currently holds an EPSRC Early Career Research Fellowship (2015-2020) at the Department of Aerospace Engineering of the University of Bristol. His academic home is the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS), where he has actively been involved with its Centre for Doctoral Training. He has published in excess of 25 journal papers and 35 conference papers. Alberto currently manages a group of more than 20 researchers. A modeller and a theoretician specialising in engineering science, Alberto’s research interests lie in the area of structural analysis, design and optimisation. In recent years, he has focused on wind turbine blades and on well-behaved nonlinear structures. Alberto has attracted funds of more than £3 million from a variety of sources, including EPSRC, InnovateUK, the EU, Catapult Centres and industry.
