ACDC 2023: The 19th International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission

Website visit Address TIC Building, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK Start March 1, 2023 - 9:30 am End March 3, 2023 -5:30 pm

About the Event:

The electrical power system is changing and we face new challenges.

ACDC is the meeting point for power transmission engineers to learn about new challenges in the energy industry, arising from environmental, regulatory, political and social factors; and how they impact on the development of transmission schemes.

The multi-stream programme contains the latest insights in transmission and distribution engineering.

The programme includes plans to develop the power grid, steps towards the net zero grid, HVDC resilience, new developments in AC and DC power, FACTS and network control, the role of power electronics in the grid, as well as new innovations such as energy islands.

  • Short Description
    • Offshore wind farm electrical networks are expected to change dramatically over the next few years. This is driven by the rising power rating of wind turbines as well as the increasing distances from shore and water depths of wind farm sites. The necessity for change is recognised by industry stakeholders as current electrical network topologies will become increasingly inefficient and expensive. This paper focuses on the developed comparative framework, based on efficiency, security and reliability, controllability, and capital cost. To demonstrate the framework, it is applied to a comparison study of four electrical network topologies for a fictional wind farm.
