ABOUT

STEM & Community Engagement

As a world-leading organisation with engineering, innovation and technology at its heart, ORE Catapult is passionate about STEM and community engagement within its local communities to deliver inspiring, meaningful and impactful social benefit.

With locations throughout the UK, our STEM and community engagement programmes are aligned to engage with and meet the respective needs of local education and community partners.

To date, we have provided STEM engagement for thousands of young learners, joined national STEM programmes and embedded our organisation as a key member of community groups. We provide STEM and community engagement in a number of different ways from our locations, including Glasgow, Levenmouth, Blyth, Grimsby and Pembrokeshire.

ORE Catapult’s presence in Blyth is significant. Home to the National Renewable Energy Centre – made up of the largest test and validation facilities in the world – Catapult is very visible to its community and has extensive outreach programmes as a result:

  • A founding member of the Blyth STEM Hub, delivering STEM outreach to thousands of young learners for Blyth schools and the wider South East Northumberland region
  • A member of the Blyth Town Deal board, helping to secure millions of pounds for key projects that will support Blyth’s regeneration efforts, set to attract clean energy industries and creating thousands of jobs for the town
  • A board member and sponsor of the Blyth Tall Ship project, supporting the delivery of maritime training and skills programmes for hundreds of local community members, providing pathways into work for those unemployed or retraining

Pembrokeshire

Our Welsh team responsible for the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence (MEECE) and a project partner of the Milford Haven: Energy Kingdom (MH:EK) project are actively engaging young learners in offshore renewable energy and hydrogen opportunities:

  • Created hydrogen resources to teach Key Stage 2 & 3 students, available on the MH:EK website
  • Working with Pembrokeshire College to develop a Destination Renewable project for Key Stage 4 learners
  • MEECE Engineering Team delivering weekly technical seminars to BTEC learners at Wales Further Education College
