WORKING WITH OEMS

We partner with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) to offer cost effective product development opportunities, which can reduce risk and improve performance and reliability across the offshore wind sector.

We provide solutions to validate designs, manufacturing processes and product reliability through innovative test set-ups and methodologies. This enables clients to bring products to market earlier and with greater confidence.

KEY CALL OUTS

Our world-leading late stage research and development services are a key component of fast tracking the commercialisation of innovative technology for the offshore renewables industry.

Our key call outs include:

Equipment

We host the largest indoor largest test and validation facilities for offshore renewable energy, and are about to supersize them further with a major investment.

Validation/Quality

Our validation work provides market confidence in products, robust testing to prove capabilities

Expertise

Our independent experts work in collaboration and partnership with client teams throughout a product’s validation journey.

Innovations

Our facilities and expertise offer a unique one stop shop for OEMs developing the next generation of turbine technology on the doorstep of one of the biggest offshore wind markets in the world.

We can assist in validating OEM technologies, supporting incremental innovations and R&D programmes, setting challenges and providing innovative solutions. This includes access to our world leading facilities, which have been at the heart of some of the biggest technological leap forwards that the offshore wind sector has seen, especially in the upsizing of turbine technology. This includes the testing and certification of the 12MW Haliade-X turbine, and 107m turbine blade currently being deployed at the largest offshore wind farm in the world.

We recently announced an £86m investment to expand and upgrade our main testing facility in Blyth, with plans to increase capacity to test blades of up to 150m and drive trains of up to 23MW. Both blade and drive train capabilities will have the capacity for further expansion, to 180m and 28MW respectively, to meet future industry demand. Our major programme of upgrade will allow us to better keep pace with the scale and speed of upsizing that we are seeing in the sector.
