What is Adatwin?

Adatwin is an AI-powered digital twin platform designed for renewable energy operators, seeking full visibility, orchestration, and performance optimisation across their asset portfolios. By unifying data from SCADA systems, condition monitoring, inspections, and operational workflows, Adatwin enables operators to make faster, more informed decisions that reduce downtime and maximise energy yield.

Adatwin aims to become the industry’s leading autonomy layer for renewable energy infrastructure – enabling predictive, automated, and data-driven operation of offshore and onshore wind fleets.

Working with ORE Catapult

Adatwin began working with the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult through the Innovate UK Business Growth programme. This collaboration centred on a three-month project to accelerate the development of Adatwin’s digital twin capabilities using real offshore data.

Over the course of the project, ORE Catapult supported Adatwin through two core work packages:

  1. Access to 12 Months of Levenmouth Demonstration Turbine (LDT) Data

ORE Catapult provided comprehensive supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) datasets from the Levenmouth Demonstration Turbine, including meteorological mast and substation data. This enabled Adatwin to:

  • Analyse real-world operational patterns.
  • Explore correlations between SCADA signals, performance trends, and early indicators of component degradation.
  • Begin forming machine learning models focused on blades, yaw drives, and generator health – three critical systems highlighted in the technical report.

  1. Engineering and Operations and Maintenance Domain Support

ORE Catapult delivered expert engineering support to help interpret SCADA datasets and contextualise turbine behaviour.

This included:

  • A full overview of offshore wind operations and maintenance processes, including planned and unplanned maintenance workflows, crew transfer constraints, failure modes, and real examples drawn from industry and from LDT.
  • Deep context around predictive vs. preventive maintenance methodologies – highly valuable for refining Adatwin’s predictive modelling approach.

This allowed Adatwin to validate assumptions, refine digital twin use cases, and ensure the platform models reflected real-world O&M challenges such as access logistics, failure progression (P-F curve), and component-level impacts on energy production.

Impact on Adatwin’s Development

The collaboration significantly accelerated Adatwin’s technical maturity and the relevance of its AI models for offshore wind operators.

Key outcomes include:

  • New product capabilities: Integration of turbine-level SCADA intelligence into Adatwin’s core digital twin architecture, enabling anomaly detection and component-level health insights.
  • Strengthened ML modelling: Direct exposure to real SCADA patterns and known LDT events (e.g., pitch system faults, leading-edge protection work) improved model validation and feature engineering.
  • Enhanced sector understanding: ORE Catapult’s detailed breakdown of O&M workflows – technician access, preventive vs. predictive cycles, major component exchanges – allowed Adatwin to align its product roadmap with real operator needs.
  • Positioning for future commercial pilots: The project laid the groundwork for deploying Adatwin within live operator environments, using SCADA-driven insights to reduce unplanned maintenance and improve turbine availability.

Damian Konarik, Co-founder and CEO at Adatwin said:

“Working with ORE Catapult has been transformative for our product and our company. Access to high-quality SCADA data from the Levenmouth Demonstration Turbine, combined with ORE Catapult’s engineering expertise, allowed us to validate and mature our digital twin technology in a real operational context.

“The ORE Catapult team provided invaluable insight into the realities of offshore wind O&M – everything from maintenance methodologies to component failure patterns – which directly shaped our AI models and accelerated our roadmap.

“This collaboration has strengthened our ability to support operators with deeper visibility, earlier warning of failures, and a clearer path toward autonomous renewable asset management. We look forward to continuing our work with ORE Catapult as we scale Adatwin across the sector.”
