Milford Haven: Hydrogen Kingdom (MH:HK) is accelerating the production of low carbon hydrogen for Pembrokeshire, South Wales and the wider Celtic Sea region.
The project is a collaboration between Celtic Sea Power, Dolphyn Hydrogen, Wales & West Utilities and ORE Catapult. Together, we aim to accelerate the production of low-carbon hydrogen at scale.
MH:HK is progressing the design and consent for a project producing low-carbon hydrogen offshore in the Pembrokeshire Demonstration Zone (PDZ).
Demonstration
The project is looking to deploy a 10MW – 15MW Dolphyn demonstration unit, followed by expansion of further units. This would deliver up to 135MW of generating capacity and provide >10,000 tons of Hydrogen annually.
The MH:HK project proposes to use the Western area of the PDZ, subject to The Crown Estate approval of licence. Celtic Sea Power are the leaseholder for the PDZ; a 90km2 area off the south coast of Pembrokeshire, which is currently designated for wave and tidal test and demonstration activity.
The MH:HK project is building a robust business case, evidence base, and transition plan for the PDZ, including quantification of the potential benefits and economic advantages.
MH:HK is funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Swansea Bay City Deal and builds on the £4.5 million Innovate UK funded Milford Haven: Energy Kingdom project led by Pembrokeshire County Council, who are also supporting MH:HK through the Swansea Bay City Deal.
