Researchers and solution developers often lack access to quality data from operational offshore wind turbines to facilitate research into operational issues and the development of new solutions.
In recognition of this, and with funding support from the Scottish Government, ORE Catapult is developing a platform for the provision of real-world, easy-to-access research-grade data from our Levenmouth Demonstration Turbine called POD.
THERE IS HUGE INDUSTRIAL AND ECONOMIC POTENTIAL ATTACHED TO OFFSHORE WIND DEVELOPMENT. SCOTLAND HAS THE NECESSARY COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND THE BUILDING BLOCKS – A SKILLED, COMMITTED WORKFORCE, EXCELLENT PORT INFRASTRUCTURE AND A STRONG INNOVATION HUB.THAT INNOVATION IS BEING SPEARHEADED BY OFFSHORE RENEWABLE ENERGY CATAPULT, WHOSE COST-CUTTING ACTIVITIES WE ARE PLEASED TO SUPPORT AND HOST THROUGH THEIR GLASGOW HEADQUARTERS AND THEIR OPERATIONS AT LEVENMOUTH. – Scottish Government – SCOTTISH ENERGY STRATEGY, DECEMBER 2017
It is envisaged that more data from other demonstration assets in the UK and internationally could also be made available through POD.
