In response to the challenges faced by offshore renewable energy industries, accelerating innovation to market is critical in supporting the operation of offshore assets and reducing the cost of energy. That is why we have dedicated expertise and support services specifically for early stage technology developers.

 

The Technology Development Centre is a *new £6 million two-storey facility that provides testing, validation and demonstration capabilities for small and medium-sized companies working on products and services for the offshore wind industry – adding to the globally unique range of services already available at our National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth.

 

It helps to develop and accelerate innovative technology, from early stage development to commercially viable, market ready products or services. It houses a 1MW test rig, a mini electrical grid system, where clients can test and certify the electrical compliance of their devices for any grid in the world, and a wind tunnel supplied by Northumbria University to study aerodynamics in offshore wind. It supports companies accelerating the advancement of power conversion systems, rotating components, and hardware in the loop testing for energy storage systems such as hydrogen and battery storage.
